His victories came at the Panama Claro Championship in February, in his home country at the El Bosque Mexico Championship in April and the WinCo Foods Portland Open in August.
Ortiz is fully exempt on the PGA TOUR in 2014-15 as a result of his three wins during 2014.

Ortiz, 23, reached No. 1 on the money list after his second win in Mexico and held the top spot after the next 19 tournaments, through the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in September, which was the third most consecutive weeks at No. 1 in a single season and equaled the fourth-most weeks a player has been No. 1 in a single season.
After leading the 21-event Regular Season money list, the 2013 University of North Texas graduate finished No. 2 on the combined Regular Season/Finals’ money list, with $515,403, the fourth most in Tour history.
Ortiz was joined on the Player of the Year ballot by Derek Fathauer, Adam Hadwin, Andrew Putnam and Justin Thomas.
“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I would like to congratulate Carlos Ortiz on an outstanding year on the Web.com Tour,” said Finchem. “Winning three times in a single season is an extraordinary achievement. Coupled with his fine play throughout the rest of the year, Carlos is a deserving honoree. I wish him all the best on the PGA TOUR. I also congratulate Derek, Adam, Andrew and Justin on their wonderful seasons and welcome them to the PGA TOUR.”
“I am honored to be voted Player of the Year by my fellow players,” said Ortiz, who receives the Jack Nicklaus Award. “I truly believe this past season on the Web.com Tour has prepared me for success on the PGA TOUR. I had a lot of fun on Tour this past year and made many friendships that I will carry well into the future. The Web.com Tour is a great tour with an incredibly high level of competition. I wish to thank its many great tournaments, sponsors, volunteers and Tour staff, all of whom made me feel very welcome at every tournament stop.”
“Carlos Ortiz has been a wonderful representative for the Web.com Tour, not only in competition but in all of his dealings with the media, tournament sponsors, fans and everyone else he’s come in contact with,” said Calfee. “He’s been an absolute pleasure to be around. His three wins and 19 consecutive weeks at No. 1 demonstrate the serious level of talent he takes with him to the PGA TOUR. We wish him well and look forward to following his progress.”
Ortiz is the 25th player to be honored as the Web.com Tour Player of the Year. He is the fourth non-U.S. born winner, following in the footsteps of Nick Flanagan (Australia), Brendon de Jonge (Zimbabwe) and Michael Sim (Australia), who were named in 2007, 2008 and 2009, respectively.

With the 2014 Web.com Tour Finals in the books, the 2015 WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft will feature Past Major Champions and PGA TOUR winners
(Portland, OR – October 7, 2014) – With the conclusion of the 2014 Web.com Tour season at the Web.com Tour Championship, 50 PGA TOUR cards and priority positions for 2014-15 have been determined. The first 25 PGA TOUR cards were awarded at the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft at Witch Hollow, and the second 25 cards were given out at the conclusion of the Web.com Tour Finals. The Web.com Tour players more than held their own against their PGA TOUR peers in the Web.com Tour Finals, which combined the top 75 players from the Web.com Tour with the players ranked #126-200 on the PGA TOUR in a four-event series to determine who earned PGA TOUR cards for the 2014-15 season. 37 of the available 50 PGA TOUR cards were earned by players who played on the 2014 Web.com Tour. “With 37 of 50 PGA TOUR cards for next season earned by Web.com Tour players, it proves the Web.com Tour is not only the pathway to the PGA TOUR for many of the best golfers in the world, but now represents the expansion of PGA TOUR golf in to new markets like Portland.” said Executive Director Jeff Sanders.
Leading the class of 50 who are headed to the PGA TOUR are Canada’s Adam Hadwin, who led in combined earnings for the entire 25-event season, and Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz, the inaugural WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft Champion. Carlos and Adam battled it out with each other in the final group during the final round of the WinCo Foods Portland Open. Carlos won three Web.com Tour tournaments in one season for the first time since 2009, and along with Adam, is fully exempt on the 2014-2015 PGA TOUR.
One of the other major storylines involves the crop of talented players who did not retain their PGA TOUR cards, and thus will likely be playing on the Web.com Tour next year and in the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft at Pumpkin Ridge. Tournament Director Pat McCabe was excited about next year’s field saying, “It will be a lot of fun for Portland golf fans to watch the rising stars of the game and experienced PGA TOUR players who have won across the world on golf’s biggest stage compete at Witch Hollow.” Those expected to play on the Web.com Tour next year include former PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang, former Masters Champion Trevor Immelman, and former British Open Champion Ben Curtis. Also likely to play on the 2015 Web.com Tour are PGA TOUR winners Tommy Gainey, Chez Reavie, Johnson Wagner, Kyle Stanley, Tim Herron, Dudley Hart, Dicky Pride, D.A. Points, Vaughn Taylor, Troy Matteson, and Harrison Frazar. Other noteworthy players expected to play the Web.com Tour in 2015 include former U.S. Amateur Champion Kelly Kraft and Ashland, OR native Jason Allred. The new PGA TOUR season begins next week (Oct. 9-12) at the Frys.com Open in California.
The field for next year’s WinCo Foods Portland Open will once again be generated straight from the Web.com Tour money list. The top 156 players for the year after August 23rd will secure their spot in the final Regular Season event at Witch Hollow at Pumpkin Ridge. The 2015 Web.com Tour schedule will be released soon, with the season likely to begin in mid-February. The WinCo Foods Portland Open will be played August 24-30 at Witch Hollow at Pumpkin Ridge, where 156 of the best golfers in the world will compete for 25 PGA TOUR cards.
