2020 WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft Heinz to be Played as Scheduled, Without Fans Due to Covid-19 Pandemic
The WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft Heinz announced today that the 2020 event will be contested without spectators in attendance due to the evolving dynamics with the COVID-19 pandemic. The longstanding Korn Ferry Tour tournament, which has been held annually at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club since 2014, will be played as scheduled, August 6-9.
“We’re disappointed to announce that we will not be able to host our tremendous fans at this year’s event. From day one, the health and safety of the Portland community, as well as our players, volunteers and partners, has remained of utmost importance throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to work closely with the PGA TOUR, as well as local, state and federal agencies to ensure the well-being of all who are allowed onsite during tournament week,” said Executive Director Jeff Sanders.
With deadlines approaching tied into the operational logistics of running the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft Heinz, conducting the 2020 event with fans onsite was not a possibility in the current health climate, the tournament determined. Washington County, which encompasses Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, is still in Phase 1 of reopening based on recent spikes in coronavirus cases.
This year will mark the 7th anniversary of the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft Heinz. The tournament – traditionally the final event of the Korn Ferry Tour Regular season – has raised over $7 million for Portland charities.
“The WinCo Foods Portland Open will remain a platform to give back to charity again this year and support the Portland community as it has for the past six years, even without fans in attendance,” said Sanders. “We would like to thank WinCo Foods for their amazing support, our long-time golf fans throughout Oregon and Washington as well as our many great sponsors, vendor partners, Pumpkin Ridge members and volunteers for their continued support throughout this unprecedented time.”
All four rounds of the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft Heinz will be broadcast live on GOLF Channel, with airtimes to be announced at a later date.
